When does Fortinet SD-WAN make more sense than MPLS?
Fortinet SD-WAN generally replaces MPLS where circuit cost is high relative to the performance actually delivered, and where application behavior matters more than raw bandwidth. BlackHawk Data designs application-aware architectures that select paths against SLA targets rather than static routes, and integrate cloud on-ramps directly. Branch-heavy estates tend to benefit most, because FortiGate consolidates routing, security and switching into one platform per site.
